CLASS 3 WATER/TANDEM DRIVERS/LABOURERS

for our Country Asphalt Crew (work outside of Winnipeg)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Tandem and equipment safely
  • Perform maintenance check and pre-trip inspections
  • Ensure proper loading of aggregates and verify the type and weight of materials being hauled
  • Ensure on-time delivery of aggregates and other road construction materials
  • Maintain truck box to remove any/all debris when necessary
  • Perform miscellaneous labour activities throughout the say as necessary

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Class 3 driver’s license and clean abstract
  • 2 years experience in road construction industry preferred
  • Confident ability to back up loader trailers
  • Knowledge of constructions materials
  • Must be physically fit, ability to lift, bend, and regularly climb in an out of vehicles
  • Good attitude, punctual, ability to work independently as we as with others
  • Must be able to take direction well and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work extended hours including weekends if necessary

MACHINE CONTROL ASSISTANTS (CO-OP)

$20-$24/hour – 2 positions in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba (North East South West w/living allowance benefit)

Under the supervision of a Surveyor, the seasonal Machine Control Assistant is responsible for assisting in the set-up and operation of the Robotic Total Station, and GNSS machine control for our paving operations. The successful candidate(s) will work closely with other survey and field crews to fulfil the needs of the business, working primarily from May to November each year.

As a Machine Control Assistant your duties will include:

  • Preliminary survey and control setup
  • Constructing Surface models and Alignments
  • Setting up multiple Robotic Total Stations for Asphalt/Concrete Pavers and Graders
  • Troubleshooting various Machine Control issues
  • Daily travel to jobs will be required

Your experience includes:

  • Basic understanding and use of total stations, leveling instruments, and global positioning system (GNSS) equipment, with working knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, standards and construction methods
  • Working knowledge of identifying and interpreting survey control monument.
  • Enrollment in Geomatics or Municipal Technology from an institute of recognized standing preferred
  • Directly related experience is an asset

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle to use for work, with comfort travelling and working outside of Winnipeg
  • Willing to work long hours (50-60 per week), primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able and willing to work overtime throughout the work week, including weekends, when necessary
  • Physically capable of routine manual labour
  • Comfortable using computers and experience with Civil3D and/or Trimble Business Center
  • Solid decision maker and problem solver
  • Strong attention to detail including a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask and manage own workload, including managing e-mail and voicemail regularly

QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIANS (CO-OP)

$19-$26/hour – Under the supervision of the QC Manager, the CO-OP students/seasonal QC Technicians will perform a wide variety of tests primarily associated with road construction materials – aggregates, concrete, and asphalt products. The successful candidates will work closely with other QC Technicians and field crews to fulfil the needs of the business, working primarily from May to October each year.

As a QC Tech your duties will include:

  • On-site testing and sample collection
  • Distribution checks for asphalt & base operations
  • Spot checks behind paving spread (slope, width, temperature, and density)
  • Concrete plastic and strength testing
  • Data collection and data entry into computerized programs
  • Daily travel to jobs will be required

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License with comfort travelling and working outside of Winnipeg across the province
  • Willing to work long hours, both outdoors in varying weather conditions and in QC lab
  • Able and willing to work overtime throughout the work week, including weekends, when necessary
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 30kg
  • Capable of problem solving and decision making
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a strong team member
  • Knowledge of construction materials, testing methods and QC procedures is an asset
  • Mechanical knowledge is an asset

SURVEYOR ASSISTANTS (CO-OP)

$20-$24/hour – 8 positions in Winnipeg; 2 in rural Manitoba (North East South West w/living allowance benefit)

Under the supervision of a Surveyor, the seasonal Surveyor Assistant will perform a wide variety of tasks including civil design, commercial development, paving and site services, residential developments, street reconstruction, residential site services, and parking lot repairs and maintenance. The successful candidates will work closely with other survey and field crews to fulfil the needs of the business, working primarily from May to November each year.

As a Surveyor Assistant your duties will include:

  • Site lay-out
  • Topographic surveys
  • Road and Site Design
  • Quantity/As built measurements
  • CAD based data prep
  • Creating 3D surface models
  • Using GNSS, Robotic Total Station, and Drone equipment for Survey and Machine Control
  • Daily travel to jobs will be required

Your experience includes:

  • First year Civil Student interested in Heavy Construction or Survey work
  • Construction or survey experience an asset

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and use of reliable transportation
  • Willing to work long hours (50-60 per week), primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able and willing to work overtime throughout the work week, including weekends, when necessary
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Physically capable (i.e. lifting up to 30kg; placing stakes into the ground)
