Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently searching for experienced GRADER OPERATORS for our Highway division:

Duties Include

  • Operate Grader to fine grade tolerances, spread & push piles of sand, soil and aggregate materials to the specified grade
  • Clean and perform basic maintenance to equipment and report any necessary requirements
  • Safely Operate Grader on public roadways, maintaining awareness of surroundings and utilities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings
  • Move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance
  • Proper safety standards are adhered to
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as assigned, including physical labour

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 2-3 years operator experience
  • Knowledge of grade control systems
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently in a dynamic fast pace environment
  • Physically able to repetitively lift 50 lbs on a regular basis

MACHINE CONTROL ASSISTANTS

Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently searching for 2 seasonal MACHINE CONTROL ASSISTANTS

2 positions in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba (living allowance benefit)

Under the supervision of a Surveyor, the seasonal Machine Control Assistant is responsible for assisting in the set-up and operation of the Robotic Total Station, and GNSS machine control for our paving operations. The successful candidate(s) will work closely with other survey and field crews to fulfil the needs of the business, working primarily from May to November each year.

As a Machine Control Assistant your duties will include:

  • Preliminary survey and control setup
  • Constructing Surface models and Alignments
  • Setting up multiple Robotic Total Stations for Asphalt/Concrete Pavers and Graders
  • Troubleshooting various Machine Control issues
  • Daily travel to jobs will be required

Your experience includes:

  • Basic understanding and use of total stations, leveling instruments, and global positioning system (GNSS) equipment, with working knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, standards and construction methods
  • Working knowledge of identifying and interpreting survey control monument.
  • Graduate of Geomatics or Municipal Technology, or similar from an institute of recognized standing preferred
  • Directly related experience is an asset

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle to use for work, with comfort travelling and working outside of Winnipeg
  • Willing to work long hours (50-60 per week), primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able and willing to work overtime throughout the work week, including weekends, when necessary
  • Physically capable of routine manual labour
  • Comfortable using computers and experience with Civil3D and/or Trimble Business Center

SEWER AND WATER – CCTV / SEWER LINE INSPECTION OPERATOR

Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently seeking a talented individual to join our Sewer & Water division as a CCTV / Sewer Line Inspection Operator

Reporting to a Supervisor, this position is a key part of our Sewer & Water team.  You will support the business by providing CCTV inspections, assessing each scenario and guiding the work to be performed.  When sewer line inspection and CCTV services are not required, the operator will be required to assist with other work at the job site, including general labour.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the CCTV inspection of underground infrastructure such as: water, sewer, or storm pipelines. Provide a correct diagnosis of potential problems or concerns such as: structural deterioration, blockages by roots or debris, or misalignment.
  • Operate CCTV equipment in a safe and professional manner.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed for each setup.
  • Ensure customer and client satisfaction by providing excellent customer service at all times.
  • Ensure CCTV inspection process is completed to MLC standards. This will include finding the optimum method of conducting the inspection, direct appropriate pre-inspection flushing and stringing of lead lines, set up and adjust equipment prior to entry into the pipe, monitor and control the progress of the televising unit while in operation, and prepare the necessary inspectional reports.
  • Deploy televising equipment and conducts the inspection by directing the movement of the unit through the pipeline and adjusting the camera to diagnose problems. Ensure video recordings and photographs taken accurately reflect existing problems. Ensure that work produced complies with clients’ specifications or code defects.
  • During the course of setting up equipment, conducting inspection and removing equipment, CCTV Operators will supervise activities of swampers and flusher operators assigned to assist with inspection. CCTV Operators will provide leadership and task delegation to the swampers and flusher operators through coaching and mentoring to ensure employee skill development.
  • Complete all required paperwork properly and within set timelines. Paperwork may include inspection reports, time sheets, daily reports, schedules, etc.
  • Maintain CCTV equipment in very good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs. Store equipment in a safe and proper manner. Report any major malfunctions or inefficiencies to supervisor to ensure proper repair in a timely manner.
  • Follow MLC policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year experience using CCTV (closed circuit televising) to inspect underground infrastructure.
  • NASSCO (National Association of Sewer Service Companies) certification is required. Also responsible for maintaining all required certifications.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, equipment and procedures utilized to conduct video inspections of underground infrastructure.
  • Strong safety-oriented personality and work ethic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, team members, and supervision.
  • Minimum class 5 license with clean driver’s abstract; access to reliable transportation to/from the jobsite.
  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training), First Aid, Confined Space, TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) safety certifications an asset.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate business needs, including long hours and occasional out-of-town jobs.
  • Punctual and reliable to meet work schedule needs.
  • Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned.

SEWER AND WATER – HYDROVAC / SEWER FLUSH TRUCK OPERATOR

Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently seeking a talented individual to join our Sewer & Water division as a Hydrovac / Sewer Flush Truck Operator

Reporting to a Supervisor, this position is a key part of our Sewer & Water team.  You will support the business by providing sewer flushing and hydrovac services to our work crews when necessary. When sewer flushing and hydrovac services are not required, the operator will be required to assist with other work at the job site, including general labour.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operate Hydrovac / Sewer Flush equipment as required.
  • Care for and maintain company equipment to company standards.
  • Complete daily inspections and correct or report all defects immediately.
  • Practice proper, legal load securement.
  • Fill water reservoir tank and empty vacuum tank in appropriate and approved areas.
  • Transport cargo and/or equipment in a safe manner.
  • Use various equipment to move and install material according to project plans.
  • Complete Driver’s logbook & daily vehicle inspection (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, accident, or incident reports.
  • Follow MLC policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • 2+ years’ experience preferred driving and operating a Hydrovac / Sewer Flush truck in a safe manner.
  • Fully trained in the operations and maintenance of the truck and comfortable trouble shooting and making minor repairs in the field.
  • Comfortable around underground utility services.
  • Able to pass basic security clearance and criminal record checks when necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong safety-oriented personality and work ethic.

SEWER AND WATER PIPELAYERS

Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently seeking Sewer and Water Pipelayers to join our team.

Requirements for the position:

  • A minimum 2 years’ related experience that includes ability to install fire hydrants, valves, water services, manholes, catch basins and piping.  He/She must be reliable, able to work long hours, and work out of town on occasion. 

Security and Safety

  • Basic security clearance; Criminal record check; driving record check (abstract)
  • Steel-toed safety boots and hard hat are required

UTILITY LOCATOR

$22 – $30/hour

Under the supervision of the Safety Manager, the seasonal Utility Locator will provide underground utility locates as required. The successful candidate will work closely with the other locators to fulfil the needs of the business, working primarily from April to November each year.

As a locator your duties will include:

  • Identify and mark underground utilities using electronic locating equipment
  • Work closely with the Project Managers/Supervisor/Foreman/Crew to determine job requirements and timelines
  • Communicate site location and scope of work to utility owners as required using computer and phone methods
  • Extensive computer use for communication and map making
  • Hand digging required to assist in locates
  • Daily travel to jobs required

Your experience includes:

  • High School education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Construction or locating experience an asset
  • Use of computers including web forms, e-mail and excel spreadsheets

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle to use for work
