Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is currently seeking a talented individual for a career opportunity as

CONTROLLER

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting.  This individual will take an active part in helping the Company streamline processes and will lead and direct the accounting team.  The Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of the Company including payroll, accounts payable, accounting, commodity taxes, analysis, internal controls and accounting systems.  This role will appeal to a professional with excellent interpersonal and communications skills who enjoys being hands on.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and manage the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Direct all aspects of the accounting operations such as accounts payable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll, variance analysis and capital asset reporting and analysis
  • Review and analyze monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and review month-end and year-end working papers and account reconciliations
  • Bi-weekly review of payroll and responsibility to ensure all payroll filings are accurate
  • Responsible for working with the auditors, ensuring all audit working papers and audit requests are completed in a timely manner
  • Preparation of annual performance reviews, ongoing performance management and development of team members
  • Provide support and training for all internal accounting software
  • Monitoring of internal controls and auditing of internal processes to streamline and improve operations

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA professional designation
  • 5+ years of related experience in a Controller or similar role
  • Supervisory experience with a proven track record of training and mentoring employees
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Understanding of commodity tax rules, payroll regulations and accounting standards
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Advanced skills with accounting programs and Microsoft Excel
